Press Release 6th March 2018

Random Potion released a vertical slice of Project Scoundrel for a selected audience –

Project Scoundrel nominated for Game Connection America 2018 Development Awards

MARCH 6th – Random Potion has developed a novel and ambitious role-playing game concept Project Scoundrel (working title). Over a year of hard work came to fruition when the development team received positive news that Project Scoundrel has been nominated for the Game Connection America 2018 Development Awards. For the last 11 years, Development Awards have been recognizing and promoting independent game projects in any stage of development.

The vertical slice of the game concept is now ready and the team is looking for a publisher to join for the production phase. Project Scoundrel is a co-operative multiplayer roleplaying game with procedurally generated levels for a group of 3-5 people. The game is a blend of Baldur’s Gate, Vermintide and Darkest Dungeon, where all the player characters have their own secrets and motivations.

The main difference of Project Scoundrel compared to other multiplayer RPGs is the focus on social collaboration instead of battles that are rare, quick and deadly in the game. Player characters have plenty of tools to avoid combat, and the enemies are usually placed in locations which contain optional content, making it a choice to go through a fight. The aim has been to develop a game that has the feeling of a tabletop role-playing game.

The primary goal of the game is to give the players unique experiences they’d love to talk about with their friends or share on Twitch, Youtube, and other channels. Social mechanics are designed to bring lively interactions to the game that will give players unforgettable memories.

If you are interested to know more, don’t hesitate to contact us! You can also meet us in Game Connection stand 54.

Random Potion Visited in Gamescom to Present New Game Material –

Project Scoundrel’s Game Teaser and Multiplayer Demo Released

Random Potion released a game demo, which is available upon request, and a trailer of Project Scoundrel on the verge of Gamescom. The demo is a single adventure for four players and has puzzles that party needs to solve, personal and group quests and of course various encounters with enemies.

Random Potion’s lead designer and current CEO Arto Koistinen, and future CEO Kirsi Rossi attended Gamescom. They met several publishers and other industry influencers who they presented with the newly launched materials. For Kirsi, this was her first Gamescom and she said “it was a fast-paced event where many developers are showcasing their games. Getting focus on your game is not an easy task to start with. Still it is worth to attend because you can meet so many people at same time and also see a cross-section of the whole game industry. Definitely an event that inspires a lot.”

Random Potion will next attend Game Connection Europe. Project Scoundrel’s vertical slice is under work and will be ready before the event for evaluation. If you are interested in getting the vertical slice or playing the current demo, please get in touch with us.

Project Scoundrel’s Game Concept Generated Great Interest in International Game Conferences –

Meet Random Potion in Gamescom

JUNE 26th – Random Potion visited several international events to present Project Scoundrel’s game concept to game publishers and industry peers. Motivated by the feedback, company’s next step is to produce a playable demo of the game.

Random Potion has had an exciting spring behind presenting Project Scoundrel in several international events. The team’s goal was to test the game concept further and conferences were a great place to meet publishers and industry peers that gave them valuable feedback and motivated the team to continue their ambitious journey.

The first event was Reboot Develop Croatia in April. Concept artist and game designer Tuomas Salmela says that “Project Scoundrel was regarded as an interesting concept with gamers, developers and some publishers alike at Reboot. The game’s social mechanics gave rise to a lot of thought and deep interest, sparking in-depth conversations with many groups of people. The graphics were given praise despite our game having been in the very early stages and we had only a few pictures to show for it.”

Project Scoundrel was also positively received in Nordic Game. ”Our game got seriously positive feedback in most of our publisher meetings; quite a few of them wanted to get their hands on the game already and wanted us to keep them posted with further developments in regards to a playable demo, project information and budget. All in all, Project Scoundrel garnered heavy interest from players, developers and publishers alike,” says Tuomas.

Now it’s time to develop Project Scoundrel to the next level for Gamescom in August. “Our aim is to introduce a demo version of the game that has a multiplayer adventure for a group of four people. The demo will give a taste of the social mechanics that form an important part of the game feel”, says CEO Arto Koistinen. A complete vertical slice is scheduled for Game Connection Europe in November.

Project Scoundrel will be also presented to the RPG enthusiasts in Ropecon, Helsinki.

Press Release 12th April 2017

Project Scoundrel Unveiled to Game Industry Experts in Tampere

APRIL 12th – Random Potion held a conference in Tampere to gather feedback on their new project.

Random Potion arranged a small meeting between local game developers in Tampere to present their new project. The online roleplaying game with unique social mechanics was well received and the company gathered a lot of positive and constructive feedback.

Project Scoundrel is a co-operative multiplayer roleplaying game with procedurally generated levels and a focus on narrative interaction between the players. It’s a blend of Baldur’s Gate, Vermintide and roguelikes. Each character has a personal storyline with private objectives and motivations that create conflict between the players, but the game requires collaboration succeed in the adventures. These social mechanics create the need for constant communication and negotiation, effectively leading into actual roleplaying.

Levels are generated specifically for the current party; if there’s a wizard in the party, there will be a puzzle requiring the use of magic, traps to disarm for rogues, etc. Each character will have moments to shine by having puzzles which require skills that only one character has. Combat encounters have enemies that are weak against a character’s skills. Players can have personal information like a specialisation in certain area of knowledge; if there are dwarven runes, only the dwarf character can read them.

The company received feedback that was both critical and encouraging. “We’re currently in the early stages of the project, but it was clear that our ideas resonated with the audience. Our goals are ambitious, but we’re definitely heading into the right direction,” says CEO Arto Koistinen. The event was attended by twenty industry veterans such as Jari Paananen from Traplight and Karoliina Korppoo from Colossal Order.

The team is currently looking for a publisher to help them bring Project Scoundrel to PC as a premium downloadable game.

Press Release 7th March 2017

Meet Random Potion: The Game Studio To Transform Digital Roleplaying

FINLAND, March 7th 2017The newly founded Random Potion brings the tabletop roleplaying experience to digital games.

With millions of players inhabiting online spaces such as the World of Warcraft, it is obvious that roleplaying games are one of the more prevalent genres in the gaming world. Others ranging from sports titles to first person shooters borrow elements introduced in the original Dungeons & Dragons. These were not the elements that made the games of fantasy and imagination so compelling in the first place, though – it was social collaboration, problem solving and stepping into another person’s shoes that made it so.

Random Potion, a team from the burgeoning games incubator that is Finland, sets out to change all that. The company, with gaming nights part of its weekly curriculum, is comprised of game industry veterans who have worked on a plethora of titles: Urban Empire, a recent city building success; the award-winning mobile roleplaying game Rimelands: The Hammer of Thor; the tabletop roleplaying satire Knights of Pen and Paper 2, as well as global franchises ranging from Star Wars and Indiana Jones to Pixar movies.

“We’re currently looking for a publisher who shares our vision of transforming digital roleplaying games”, says the company CEO Arto Koistinen. “We have received seed investment and are currently working on a proof of concept for our first game, Project Scoundrel.” This project is described as a “tabletop-inspired roleplaying game which draws a lot of inspiration from titles such as Baldur’s Gate, with a focus on co-operative multiplayer and procedurally created adventures where unique factors such as individual story choices are mixed in.”

If you’d like to know more about the game or the company making it, you can check out their website at http://www.randompotion.com or follow them on Twitter (https://twitter.com/Random_Potion) or Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/RandomPotion).
